Mozilla comments that combining the plugin with the browser’s VPN; it will add an extra layer of protection to users’ compartmentalized browser activity and additional protection to location data as well.
A clear example can be seen in a Mozilla blog post: “You travel for work and use your computer to check your work email from Paris, France, but you also want to check your personal bank accounts in New York City. That’s where you can separate your online activity from your work and personal finances with multi-account containers plus the added privacy of Mozilla VPN and choose from 400+ servers in 30 countries”
A multi-hop desktop feature was also released that allows people to use two VPN servers instead of one. Something that is now being implemented on mobile devices.
The feature first routes our online activity using an inbound VPN server followed by an outbound VPN server. Mozilla says that bringing the feature to the mobile device version of the VPN service allows users to gain more privacy. They also point out that it is useful for those who want to further protect their privacy; something that could be extremely useful for political activists and journalists dealing with complex issues.
This release comes shortly after the company introduced its Total Cooke Protection offering, which is used to share tracking across sites, in Firefox Focus on Android. The idea of Total Cookie Protection is to help eliminate tracking between sites where companies accumulate user information, such as the websites we visit daily or products we are looking for.
In addition to this, Mozilla also launched Firefox Relay, which is a product that hides users’ real email addresses to help them protect their identity on the Internet.
