The Federal Revenue of Brazil promotes in the next few days a course on cryptocurrencies, for 100 career servers of the municipality. The training was planned by the General Inspection Coordination of the Sub-Secretariat for Inspection (Cofis/Sufis) of the RFB. In Brazil, even though a regulation on cryptocurrencies has not been approved by the National Congress, the sector has already been formally recognized since 2019. And this recognition came through revenue, through its Normative Instruction No. 1,888/2019. Thus, after four years since the RFB began to inspect operations with cryptocurrencies and oblige Brazilians to declare these, the new training indicates that auditors are attentive to the market.

Federal Revenue of Brazil will train 100 servers in cryptocurrencies

O livecoins had access to a new training program formulated by the RFB, which will be applied in the coming days to 100 career civil servants, who occupy the position of Tax Auditor in the autarchy. The Federal Revenue Service of Brazil will pay R$ 6,066.20 for the course on cryptocurrencies, which will be offered in the form of Distance Learning (EAD). The professor will be Thiago Augusto Bueno, Attorney General in Brazil and author of the book “Bitcoin and Money Laundering“, by Editora Contemlar. In a note, the Federal Revenue stated that the professional is qualified, including a master’s degree in Law from the Catholic University of Brasília, when he researched bitcoin, money laundering and regulation. As the cost of the course was low, the RFB waived the bidding process for hiring the professional, who will present the course “Tax and criminal offenses involving crypto assets”. The approved course has up to 90 days to take place.

What is the RFB’s objective with this training?

According to the Federal Revenue of Brazil, cryptocurrencies present themselves as a revolutionary technology for sending values around the world. In addition to the existence of more than 20,000 cryptocurrencies, the RFB also declared that their market value exceeds billions of dollars. As Brazil has seen billions of reais being traded, and it is up to the Tax Auditors to monitor the sector, the training will be to improve their knowledge in the sector. “The EaD | Cryptoactive adheres precisely to this premise of providing training to Tax Auditors, linked to the Tax Inspection and Anti-Illicits work macro process, to understand the general aspects of the cryptoeconomy, identify the types of existing cryptoassets and related technologies, analyze the monetary nature of cryptoassets, know the regulation of cryptoassets, identify the forms of taxation of transactions related to cryptoassets, know the sources of information available to identify transactions involving cryptoassets, identify omission of taxes levied on cryptoasset transactions, select taxable persons based on the movement of crypto assets, monitor capital gains on the purchase and sale of crypto assets and identify vulnerabilities of crypto assets to the commission of tax and criminal offenses.” During the course, auditors should learn more details about the monetary analysis of cryptocurrencies, regulation, foreign exchange evasion, money laundering and financial pyramids that use “crypto assets”, as well as ways to seek, seize and dispose of these digital currencies. In recent days, the IRS and the Federal Police launched Operation Traders and sought cryptocurrencies from suspects of operating a financial pyramid scheme.
