With the new update of the app, on January 1, 2023 WhatsApp stops working on certain Android and iOS phones with outdated operating systems.
Models with old versions of iOS and Android will not be able to install the versions that arrive in 2023 of WhatsApp
As of that date, WhatsApp will only continue to work on those smartphones that have at least Android 4.2 (and later versions) installed, which will leave without updates from the popular instant messaging app to terminals that, on the other hand, will already have a few years behind them. It must be remembered that Android 4.2 arrived in October 2012, so we would be talking about smartphones that can be up to a decade old.
These are the Android phones that will not be able to run WhatsApp from January 1, 2023:
-Samsung Galaxy Core
-Samsung Galaxy Trend Lite
-Samsung Galaxy Trend II
-Samsung Galaxy Ace 2
-Samsung Galaxy s3 Mini
-Samsung Galaxy X cover 2
-Huawei Ascend Mate
-Huawei Ascend G740
-Huawei Ascend D2
-Sony Xperia M
-Lenovo A820
-LG Optimus L3 II Dual
-LG Optimus L5 Dual
-LG Optimus L7 Dual
-LG Optimus F3
-LG Optimus F5
-LG Optimus F7
-LG Optimus F3Q
-LG Optimus L2 II
-LG Optimus L3 II
-LG Optimus L4 II
-LG Optimus L5 II
-LG Optimus L6
-LG Optimus L7 II
-LG Enact
-LG Lucid 2
In the case of iOS, there will also be iPhone models that remain without WhatsApp updates and with which it is not recommended to continue using this application because security updates will no longer be available that could prevent potential problems, both with the operation of the application or with new features and functions that could not be installed as with potential problems of unwanted intrusions or malfunctions.
Apple’s operating system does not go as far back in time as Android and from January 1, 2023, iOS 12 (launched in 2018) will be the last version to continue to be operational. This will affect the iPhone 6s, 6 Plus (both released in 2015), and the first-generation iPhone SE (released in 2016).
How to update the version of the operating system to continue using WhatsApp
On the other hand, this is not the end in some cases. PFor old versions of iPhone and Android there are still solutions.
If you are an Android user and want to solve this situation, the first thing is to know the version of the device. To do this, you must look for the “Settings” option, a very common symbol in the shape of a gear wheel. Upon entering, it goes to the “About my phone” tab and the device version appears at the end of the list. If it is 4.2 or earlier, the equipment must be updated.
In the same “Settings” option, you must enter the “System and updates” tab, then click on “Update Software” and the device will do it automatically if you have a mobile that supports the new version. If the system approves the update, it is recommended to do it with a WiFi connection due to the high data consumption that can be generated.
In the case of users with iPhone the procedure is the same. It starts with a verification of the operating system version by entering “Settings” / “General” / “Information” / “Software Version”. There you can see what version of iOS the mobile has and, if it is 12 or lower, you have to update.
To update on iPhone you have to start from the “General” option and click on “Software Update”. The system will search for and update, if allowed, the next version supported by the equipment.
