Interpol researchers will participate in a workshop on cybersecurity, blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The training will be promoted by digital asset exchange Binance, and blockchain data platform Chainalysis. According to a company statement, the workshop will take place at the 7th Meeting of the Interpol Americas Working Group on Cyber Crimes for Heads of Unit, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Binance and Chainalysis will address blockchain and cryptocurrency concepts. In addition, the exchange will expose its AML (Money Laundering Prevention) policies and the processes and tools it has developed to collaborate with authorities in the fight against cyber and financial crimes. One of the speakers at the workshop will be Binance’s Head of Intelligence and Investigations in the Americas, Matt Price. He is a former special criminal investigation agent for the IRS (the equivalent of the US Internal Revenue Service) at the Cyber Crimes Unit in Washington.
Interpol takes a course on cryptocurrencies
As Gurvais Grigg, CTO of the Global Public Sector at Chainalysis, highlighted, the company believes actions like these will help the sector. That’s because when authorities and regulators feel comfortable with cryptocurrencies, exchanges can expand. In addition, financial institutions can enter the ecosystem safely and responsibly. “Training expert investigators like those at Interpol is critical for the cryptocurrency industry to grow safely and responsibly,” says Grigg. The head of intelligence and investigations for the Americas at Binance, Matt Price, stressed that the exchange’s priority is users. As such, the company is looking to invest in a security and compliance team that meets this while also setting the standard across all financial services, not just crypto. “Every day we work hand in hand with law enforcement to track and follow up on suspicious accounts and fraudulent activity, helping to combat cyber and financial crimes. By initiating our own investigations and working with leading law enforcement agencies to protect users, we aim to lead the industry in security and compliance.”
Binance gives course to Gaeco agents in Brazil
In July of this year, Binance also provided training for Prosecutors and investigators from the Special Action Group on Combating Organized Crime (Gaeco), the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) and other invited bodies. As reported by CriptoFácil, the workshop addressed topics such as, for example, the concept of blockchain and cryptoassets. The objective was to broaden knowledge about Binance’s anti-money laundering (AML) policies. After being the target of an “offensive” by regulators from several countries around the world for its irregular performance, Binance sought to reverse this scenario. Since last year, the company has obtained operating licenses in several nations, such as France, Spain and Italy, for example. At the same time, it has sought to compose a robust staff of officials in the regulation and compliance sector. Binance also collaborates with authorities and other crypto companies in fighting crimes involving cryptocurrencies.
