Digital asset exchange Mercado Bitcoin has entered the sports arena for good. This Friday (27) the company announced that it will launch its own football club in an unprecedented initiative. The team will be managed in the metaverse via Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). In addition, the platform will issue 100 million tokens to finance the technical commission and the screenings that will be held in 2023.
Metaverse DAO Football Team
According to a statement sent to CriptoFácil, the club has been provisionally renamed the Metaverse DAO Football Team. According to the exchange, the official launch of the team is scheduled to take place during the FIFA World Cup. The competition will be held from November to December 2022. It will also be at this time that the platform will launch the club’s first tokens. As explained by Sérgio Veiga, director of sponsorship at the exchange, the expectation is to define, in January 2023, the technical committee. Then, between March and June, a national sieve should be carried out. The idea is for this selection of athletes to pass through all Brazilian states in search of talent. Those selected will form the under-21 teams, both in men’s and women’s football. The company’s objective is to participate in the first official competition as early as 2024, in both categories. In addition, the company said it will implement an equal pay policy regardless of gender, position or prominence. The club owners will choose the definitive name of the team, the uniforms and the numbering of the players. They will make each of the decisions through the governance tokens that the company will issue. In the event of a tie on any of the decisions, a committee will give the final word. The group will be composed of market executives from partner companies, with no political relationship with the team.
“We want to show that there is a much smarter way to manage a team and we are certain that this path is possible”, stated Veiga.
Investors will earn token
Also according to Mercado Bitcoin, the funding of the Metaverse DAO Football Team will come from the issuance of tokens. The assets will give ordinary people the chance to invest, participate and support the team.
“The team is already born with the largest fan partner program in the country. After all, all 3.5 million customers of the Bitcoin Market platform will earn a token,” the exchange highlighted.
Finally, the company informed that the tokens may also bring financial return to their owners. That’s because it will be up to them to decide if they want to share part of the team’s results among themselves, or if they will keep the returns as the team’s equity. According to Veiga, the team’s idea came from the experience with tokens linked to the Vasco and Santos clubs as well as the fan tokens listed on the platform and the sponsorships to Corinthians and Vasco. He noted that with the team, the Bitcoin Market will decrease its exposure to “traditional” football. In other words, the company will stop printing the Corinthians shirt as of June.
