Update Avast to the latest version

One of the most common causes of these errors is that most users are running outdated versions of Avast on their system. So, if we have an old version, we can force an update and fix the update wizard errors 1316, 1638 and 1603 problem.

We start the Avast application. Once we start it we will have to click on the Action Menu in the upper right corner. Next, we will have to select Settings on the left side. We will look for the “General” tab. Click on “Update”. Now we will have to click on “Check for updates” in the “Update” sub tab.

Avast will download and install any new updates available. Depending on their weight, it may take a while, so we recommend patience.

In case we cannot run the updates manually, the alternative is to uninstall Avast and reinstall it from the official website.

Repair Avast antivirus

Another way to fix update wizard errors 1316, 1638, and 1603 is to repair Avast, as they can be caused by a corrupt installation.

We start the Avast antivirus. In the Actions menu in the upper right corner we will click. We will choose Settings and we will navigate to the General tab. Next, we will click on Troubleshooting in the list of menu options. In the right panel , we scroll down to the section I still have problems. We click on the Repair application button. Then we will click on Yes in the confirmation message and wait for the scan to finish. To finish, we click on Solve all on the next screen in order to repair potential Avast problems. When we’re done, we’ll need to restart your computer.

Troubleshoot clean boot state

A clean boot will start Windows with minimal use of drivers and startup programs. This will be very helpful in ruling out software conflicts that occur when installing programs or updates in Windows 11 and 10.

Many reports claim that these errors can appear in the system if we have NVIDIA ShadowPlay installed, it is a component of the GeForce Experience application, which runs in the background. In this case, it would be ideal to uninstall the NVIDIA application to avoid conflicts.
