Rapper Jay-Z (Shawn Corey Carter) and Twitter founder Jack Dorsey have teamed up to bring free Bitcoin (BTC) education to residents of the Marcy Houses public housing complex in Brooklyn, USA, where Jay-Z grown up. From the next few months, they will be able to participate in The Bitcoin Academy, an action that is being funded by the duo.

The Bitcoin Academy

The announcement of the project was made by Dorsey on Twitter this Thursday (9). As he explained, the program will address, in addition to BTC, strategies of “long-term thinking, local economies and self-confidence”. The program leaders will be educators Lamar Wilson and Najah J. Roberts. Lamar Wilson has been involved in educating others about Bitcoin since 2013. He is active both in the US and globally and believes in Bitcoin’s freedom. “We will continue to arm the underprivileged with education about Bitcoin and financial freedom. We’re excited to get started,” Wilson said. Meanwhile, Najah J. Roberts is a crypto expert, motivational speaker, and founder of the first digital asset education center for African Americans. “It’s time to learn the truth about Bitcoin and how we need to use it to our advantage.” tweeted Is it over there.

Bitcoin (BTC) Education

According to Dorsey’s tweets, the program is a collaboration with crypto education projects Crypto Blockchain Plug and Black Bitcoin Billionaire. In addition, the action has local support from Dorzey’s Block and Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation. Courses will be online and face-to-face, starting on June 22 and ending on September 7. Participants will receive information about Bitcoin, mining, scam protection and how to build the financial future. Classes will have, for example, topics such as “What is money?” and “What is Blockchain?”. In addition, participants will have access to free MiFi-enabled devices, as well as a limited one-year data plan and, if necessary, they will receive smartphones. In addition, students will receive an amount of Bitcoin for hands-on learning.

“This innovative program aims to educate and empower the community, remove some barriers to access, and allow residents to learn more about Bitcoin specifically and financial well-being in general,” highlighted the Shawn Carter Foundation. The action is, for now, focused on Marcy Houses, but the team hopes to expand the action to other neighborhoods soon. “Bitcoin is becoming a critical tool for many in Africa and Central and South America. So we believe the same potential exists in US communities,” Dorsey said.
