Social networks are crowned as the category of most downloaded applications during the month of September, despite the fact that as a whole the total number of downloaded apps fell by 5% during that month compared to August. It is a circumstance that could be a consequence of the end of the holidays and the beginning of the return to school and return to work after the summer holiday.
TikTok was the most downloaded app on the planet in September with 54 million new installations on iOS and Android
TikTok has been the most downloaded app in the world during the month of September with a total of 54 million new users when adding the set of downloads from the App Store and Google Play, respectively the app stores for the iOS and Android ecosystems. In this case, the total number has also decreased slightly compared to the total number of downloads during the month of August. Even so, TikTok is once again the most downloaded app, a title that it regains after giving in to the push of BeReal this summer.
This could serve as a wake-up call for Meta, but the rise of TikTok (owned by the Chinese company ByteDance) is immediately followed by the success in downloads of all the applications of platforms belonging to the parent company of Mark Zuckerberg: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. As a whole, more than 154 million new downloads in both app stores correspond to all these platforms.
As for social networks, BeReal could be behind the significant drop in Snapchat installations, which lost 4 million downloads compared to the month of August.
From the analysis of the most downloaded apps, it is also worth noting that Google’s productivity applications (Docs and Spreadsheet) are surpassing their rivals from Microsoft (Office and Word).
In total, the 10 most downloaded apps in the world during the month of September reached 331 million devices, a significant amount but 5% below what happened during the month of August.
