Tips to reduce bounce rate

Robert Dean

Google defines bounce rate as a single page session on a website. That is, the bounce is calculated when a user accesses our website, visits a single page and leaves without following a link, clicking anywhere on the page or visiting another page within our website.

Although a very high bounce rate can be a sign of a problem with the website or one of its pages, this is not a factor that affects SEO.

When a bounce occurs, it means that the user not only leaves the page they have visited, but also leaves our website. A high bounce rate can be an indication of a bad user experiencealthough it is also possible that the content was not what the user expected or was of poor quality.

On the other hand, a high bounce rate can also be the result of a positive user experience. For example, if the user was looking for a particular recipe and when they came to our website they found it and liked it, they may make a copy of the recipe and leave our website without visiting other recipes. In this case, ideally, you should bookmark the page.

While a bounce rate isn’t always a sign of a problem, it’s still important to look carefully at this factor and make sure it’s not caused by a malfunction or low-quality content. To do this, we share with you some tips to improve the bounce rate:

-Charging times: We have to analyze the loading times of each web page on our site, making sure that they are correct and that we do not have pages with loading problems.

-User experience: We must ensure that navigation through our website is easy. To do this, we must have well-identified and separated labels, categories and sections, with pleasant and striking colors.

-Design: In this sense, the user experience goes through a functional and attractive design. The design of our website must be intuitive, so that it facilitates navigation.

-Improve internal search: Many websites forget how important the internal search engine is, as users search for content within the website itself. This tool must be configured correctly, and it must be easy to find and use.

-Mobile First: We have to make sure that our websites are responsive and adapt correctly to mobile browsing, since more and more users access the Internet from mobiles every day. A bad experience, with a non-adapted design, can cause users to leave our website.

-Easy to read: The content must have a clear and effective format. The text must be visible to everyone, even those with vision problems. To do this, the ideal is to use a white background and a large black font.

-Content format: The content must have an adequate format, for this, the ideal is to write using short sentences and paragraphs of no more than four or five lines. In this way, the user can scan the content and find those parts that interest him.

-Avoid popups: Popups are elements that “jump” and occupy the visual space of a website, they are usually used to invite the user to subscribe or download a lead magnet. These elements are annoying for browsing and when browsing on mobile, they can completely block the content, causing the user to leave the page.

-Advertisements: Similarly, we must also avoid the use of video or very large ads, as they can distract or deceive the user, causing them to click on it and leave our website.

-Internal links strategy: A good way to avoid the increase in the bounce rate is to create an internal link strategy that invites users to continue consuming content from our website in a simple way. In this sense, we have to check that the links work correctly and also that the links to the internal content open in a new tab.

-Create new content: Creating content continuously offers users who visit a web page many more options, with different themes and content that allow them to stay longer on a website.
